Quantitative determination of urine sodium by means of ion exchange resins.

چکیده
The method for quantitative determination of serum sodium as described by Vanatta and Cox (1) is adaptable to determination of urine sodium. However, wider variations in sodium and potassium concentrations, and the presence of ammonia and other interfering substances, necessitate certain modifications of the procedure. Apparatus and Reagents-The items of apparatus needed for the determination of urine sodium are those required for determination of serum sodium with the following additions and exceptions. 1. The 50 cm. column of resin with a cross-sectional area of 0.93 to 1.04 sq. cm. is increased to a length of 55 cm., the diameter remaining the same. A 50 cc. burette is adequate for either column. 2. A 250 cc. Erlenmeyer flask. 3. A small glass boiling bulb which will fit the opening of the 250 cc. Erlenmeyer flask. 4. A stopper with a CO2 absorption tube in it which will fit the 250 cc. Erlenmeyer flask. The same reagents as for determination of serum sodium are required, with the addition of the following reagents: 1. Nitrogen gas under pressure or compressed air washed in alkali or passed through soda lime. 2. 100 cc. of toluene with two or three crystals of thymol. 3. Soda lime or a similar CO2 absorber.

Lead, copper, cobalt, nickel, iron and zinc ions form monocitrate complexes (negative charge) in citrate solution which is absorbed on the citrate form of anion-exchange resins (citrate as counter ion) y exchange of citrate ion with citrate complexes. These are subsequently recovered from the resin by 0.5M ammonium citrate eluent at pH 2.0. Under optimized conditions, quantitative recovery ...

Using ion-exchange resins, a multiple-unit type of oral floating dosage system has been prepared to prolong gastric emptying time of dosage form. The system is composed of beads of drug-resin complex, which are loaded with bicarbonate ions and coated with a hydrophobic polymer. The system is so designed that when the beads reach the stomach, chloride ions are exchanged with bicarbonate and drug...

A most effective and less energy demanding method of producing fatty esters, diol esters, by esterifying fatty acids, with neopentyl and ethylenglycol alcohols in the presence of an acidic ion exchange resin catalyst(polyestyrendivinylbenzensulfated) was investigated at elevated temperature. In this process an azeotroping agent, toluene, was used to facilitate continuous removal of water by dis...

The demonstration of the accumulation of citrate in vivo in the presence of fluoroacetate and the specific modification of this effect produced in various organs by the injection of malonate (14) have increased the desirability of isolation and quantitative determination of the acids of the Krebs cycle and related substances. Further, proposed studies involving the use of radioactive tracers re...
